Recently installed programs 'disappear' from system after reboot.

I recently installed UGS SolidEdge v21 and Adobe Reader on my computer. When I restart my computer, all of the files in the program folders disappear. The folders are still there, but with no files in them. It seems as if the program disappears. Also, my document files lose the relationship with the appropriate program. ex: If I double click a .pdf file, it asks me what program to use to open the file. I cannot find Acrobat Reader to open the file.

The progams install in the /Programs(.86)/ folder.

My computer is custom built by me. It has an ASUS P5QE mobo, Intel Core2 Quad, 8GB Crucial memory in dual channel, ATI FirePro video card, Creative Audigy Platinum sound card, 2 HDD's in SATA.

I upgraded Windows 7 Professional from Windows Vista Ultimate.

Thanks!

    Hi djcurls101,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers!

I would suggest you to perform a System Restore and check if the issue is resolved.

Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. Once you confirm your restore point, System Restore restarts your computer.

    ·        Open System Restore by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, clickSystem Restore.‍ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

That did not help. I booted my PC today at about 5h40 and all my files and programs were gone, only empty folders remain in My Documents. I tried the system restore as you suggested and every restore point before today disappeared from the list.

Same problem here. I've been reading about this bug in other forums too. Windows 7, 32-bit. Installed 1 week ago on my dell lappy. At first I thought it was going to turn out my HD was failing, as I know I'm rough on it.. The current setup is OS/2, Dos 6.22, OSX, & Win-7. All other partitions are fine, and pass all any sort of error or integrity test I throw at them, but windows-7 loses programs. The icons will be blank in the start menu, and windows can't find them, I go to their previous location, and even their folder will be gone. Go to control-panel:programs and if I hit "repair" or "update", it actually restores them AND all their settings. These programs are most certainly 7-compatible, and my drive is perfectly fine. Everyone told me what a huge improvement 7 was over Vista, I agree that it uses resources more efficiently, however I'm not a person who's OK with my programs suddenly disappearing, this is a HUGE bug in Windows-7 and until there's a statement & workaround from MS, I'll be uninstalling it.
