That creates the sfcdetails.txt and then you have to go to it and read it however your 2nd run confirms
no errors found.
Still think your best bet is to give removing BullGuard.
Good luck.

My pc got buggered up with all these updates.Did a clean re-install of VISTA,but have no sound, cannot download REALTEK AC97 for love nor momey, all attempts just says RTKVAC.SYS not found.
What does this mean and how do you solve.I know nothing of pc's,so if anyone can help, explain in the simplest of terms please.
Do not tell me to re-install,i only did it yesterday.None of this is my fault but MICROSOFTS.We should not have to be doing all this, updates should not mess your computer up.

************ (The system tray - Speaker will have a Red Cross) *************************
I had the same problem and I resolved this on my Windows 7.
To resolve this problem, this is what I did. (The system tray - Speaker will have a Red Cross)
P.S: The issue can be found in the device manager, for some computers the steps may change a little, hope this information was helpful.
Hi SakD. D.,
Please don't type in all caps as it is hard to read and considered to be
yelling.
Although your problem is similar it probably has different possible causes and fixes so please start your own thread with the info we need to help
you.

Thanks for trying to help. But i am having no luck.
I have done what you say, updated my pc makers drivers etc from their site.Unistalled HD AUDIO from pc,reboot, they came back,(not the sound).
Downloaded REALTEK,but still will not let me install, either the same error RTKVAC,or stays on the blue download bar forever when trying to install and the blue bar (begin to install/update ac97) does not go any further, for an hour or more. This cannot be right?
This is ridiculous,if i have ever had any problem with sound before,my brother who fixes pcs,but lives miles away so cannot help, would just download realtek, install them, and everything was done and dusted in about an hour.I have been meesing about 2 days.I am doing everything suggested here, and from watching my brother.
Hi,
Control Panel - Device Manager - SOUNDS - look for Sound/Audio Device - Are you sure your's is AC97
and not HD Audio?
Write down description make and model - double click on it - drivers tab - write down version. Now
Click UPdate Drivers which may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers. Then RIGHT
CLICK on it and UNINSTALL - REBOOT - this will rebuild the driver stack.
1st go to system maker's site and look for latest driver Download - SAVE - go to right click on and RUN AS ADMIN
(This is your fallback.) REBOOT after each driver installation.
NOTE : Sound drivers often rollback so check the version after installation and the reboot to seeif the version you installed is there, if not repeat the install - reboot until it is. It can take severaltries depending on how many rollbacks it does.
Then do same for Device Maker's site.
For Realtek AC97
Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

Also Right Click Speaker near clock - Playback Devices - right click in the box area - check
Show disable and disconnected devices. Highlight speaker and on the lower Right click Properties
check settings for Device Usage enabled and so on. Also do same for Configure on Lower Left of
that box.
In Control Panel you can also look for an Audio Manager along with the Sound Settings.
