You can get to a Command Prompt like so:

 1. Set your BIOS to use the DVD drive as the primary boot device.

 2. Boot with a Windows Repair CD.

 3. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …" appears.

 4. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next. You are now in Repair Mode.

 5. Select an Operating System, then click Next.

 6. Select the Command Prompt.

 7. Identify the correct drive letter for your Windows installation. It could be a drive other than C: but it won't be X:. You do it by typing the commands

    dir C:\Win* {Enter}

    dir D:\Win* {Enter}

    dir E:\Win* {Enter}

    etc.

    until you find the Windows folder.

Instead using a Windows Repair CD in Step 2, you can use your Windows 7 Installation DVD. The steps are similar to the ones above.

Whether the above steps will solve your problem I do not know.

    Hi, if u have managed to get a copy of devobj.dll then load windows as best u can. Ctrl-alt-del and choose task manager, it takes a bit longer than usual. Select file, run, browse and u can navigate your drives, I stored my copy of the dll on a USB flash drive on g: so navigate to g: in the FileName box type *.* and the file will become visible, right click and copy then navigate to c:\windows\system32\ right click and paste. Reboot and if u r lucky u get normal boot if not u get safe mode.

    The reason this has happened is probably bcos windows has installed an update and u have tried to restore to a point prior to that installation . U will then have old and new stuff floating and it gets itself in a mess so don't use an old restore! Good luck

    You cant even get to the Start menu it that message showing, the computer wont boot, does this mean that the only solution is to use a recovery disc?

    the reason it happens is really simple because if u  turn off laptop during the updates than this problems occurs.Solution is pretty simple. Get another laptop which has windows 7 copy the devobj.dll from C:/windows/system32, now you can  copy the file from another working laptop to yours by going to repair option. Chose LOAD DRIVERS button where you can see the Explorer windows, from there go to D drive (if i am not wrong) and place it in System32 folder and restart the machine.Thats it.
