Trash icon problem

I downloaded some alienware programs on my computer. After finally figuring out how to get rid of them, I also got rid of the icons. Unfortunately once I did that, there were some icons that did not change back.

Now, when I try to delete something it will say (Are you sure you want to move this file to the recycle bin?) and then to the left of that there will be a recycle bin icon, but since there isn't anymore it just shows a broken icon image and I don't know how to change it back.

(The reason it isn't there anymore is because alienware put their custom one on there, and since that was deleted the original icon didn't come back)

    SirBrandon,

Click Start, type Regedit.exe and hit ENTER

    Navigate to the following branch:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons

From the File menu, click Export and save the branch to a .REG file.

Open the .REG file using Notepad, copy the contents and post it here.

    Hello SirBrandon,

Try to boot your system into Safe mode:

Once the scan is done
delete anything it finds. Then simply reboot your PC to see if your issue has been resolved!

If the scan comes back clean then try this step below:

To help resolve this issue, use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow (yes there is a space after sfc) The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Hope this helps you. Let us know either way. Make it a great day!

Well that still didn't work. This is what happens:

http://i38.tinypic.com/f0yn2e.jpg As you can see, there is a problem when I try to delete something, the recycle bin icon doesn't show, but the recycle bin icon on the desktop does show.

    Hello Sir Brandon,

Right click on your desktop and select the Personalize option, please. You'll see you're in the Appearance and Personalization>Personalization control panel. Look to the left tab and click on the "Change desktop icons" setting. Once you do that, you'll see the Desktop Icon Settings applet and from there can restore your missing Windows Vista icons (ie, the beloved Recyble Bin, which I on many occasions until recently deleted too by accident).

    Hope this helps!

    Eric
