In the process of my automatic updates, an error code popped up saying that this particular update failed and was not installed due to:  Error code 80070005.

This is an update regarding my HP Display w2007 Wide LCD Monitor.  Do I really even need this update?  If so, how do I correct the problem and install the update successfully?  If not, how do I get rid of the prompt that still says I have an update that needs to be installed

Hi BQM,

The error code 80070005 usually means that you do not have enough permission to install updates.

Regarding the **‘HP w2007 LCD Monitor Driver’**update, you refer the below link for detailed information:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=vc-47742-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3357289&os=2093&lang=en

This issue can occur if access is denied when accessing or copying files during the Windows Update or Microsoft Update process. Access can be denied if you are logged on to the computer as a standard user and this account does not have the proper permissions to install updates.

Method 1: Log on to the computer as an Administrator

  1. First please confirm you have logged on an account with administrative privileges.
  2. Now perform Windows Update.

Method 2:

If you still come across the issue, reset the Windows Update components and check if you still get that error message.

Click on the Fix It button in the article below to do that automatically or you may do it manually as well. For more information refer to the article below.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Hope this helps.

Kullanıcı hesaplarındaki sorundan dolayı bu iletiyi alırsınız.

Administrator olarak oturum açın kullanıcı hesaplarına girin, oturum açtıgınız adın grup üyeliklerinde yalnızca administrators bulunsun.

Yaptıktan sonra oturumu kapatıp söz konusu hesapla oturum açın update çalışacaktır.

I followed Chan's advise and did the "fix it"  It did not work.  I am the administrator and do not have to sign in.  Have never had problem with updates before.  what else can I do?

    Hi Mr. Manasa,

I got the same 80070005 error code when:

Windows Update did it's automatic update search and downloaded a normal Windows Defender definitions update.

It downloaded but would not install.  I have regularly gotten these Defender definitions updates and installed, without problem, for a couple years - until Monday July 5th for some reason.  I am not aware of any changes I made to any programs since I successfully downloaded and installed my last Defender definitions update about a week earlier.

Is 'resetting" Windows Update components all I have to do as well? Just using the "Fix it" button, or is there something different about my situation?

    Thanks,  Jim North
