Integrated SD card reader not recognizing memory card

Have Fujitsu notebook/tablet w/ integrated SD card reader.  Card reader worked fine w/ Vista, after upgrading to W 7 it stopped working.  I was able to get it working for a while by manually updating drivers, but recently has stopped working again.  I get the tone recognition when card is inserted or removed, but it never shows up as a drive (or anywhere else.)  I have tried pretty much everything that I have seen on these forums (and others) including uninstalling device, manually installing updated drivers, old drivers, other manufacturer's drivers, etc.  Wondering if maybe not a driver issue?  W7 troubleshooter says no problem.  Device manager says device working properly (although when I have installed some drivers, it will occasionally disable the device.)

i haven't tried changing anything in registry though. (sounds scary.)   Any suggestions?  Why do I hear the sound when card is inserted and removed yet nothing happens?

    Hi,

Does the card gets detected in a different laptop?

I suggest that you follow these steps and check:

Step 1: Change the upper filter and lower filter.

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

how to back up and restore registry

1.Click Start and then click All Programs.

2.Click Accessories, and then click Run.

3.Type regedit and then click OK.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

1.In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{A0A588A4-C46F-4B37-B7EA-C82FE89870C6}

1.In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.

2.On the Edit menu, click Delete.

3.When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

4.In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.

5.On the Edit menu, click Delete.

6.When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    7.Exit Registry Editor.

    8.Restart the computer.

Step 2:Check whether the driver is listed.

    Follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. Click Start, click Computer, and then see whether the drive is listed.

If the drive is not listed, remove and reinstall the existing drivers.

1.Click Start and then click Control Panel.

2.Click System and Maintenance, click System and then click Device Manager.

Note: If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System and then click Device Manager.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

1.In Device Manager, locate SD card reader, right-click and then click Uninstall it.

If you are unable to locate it, then go to view and and select " show hidden devices" .

2.When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.

    3.Restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed.

    Thanks and Regards:

    Hi,

Thanks..I will try to do this and let you know.  (And yes, I have several cards that work in other machines but none work in this one.)

An update since my cry for help...I was able to load an updated driver and get the drive to work. However, for some reason when I start up the machine either from shut down or from hibernate, this drive (and the bus controller driver) have become disabled.  When I enable with device manager then it will work again.  Does this tell you anything??  Should I still try the registry changes (still sounds scary.)

    Thanks again for your help.
