Windows\System32\Config\System error

Just recently today, on my other desktop computer, I tried starting it up when it gave me this:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Home Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.

Select 'r' at the first screen to repair."

Okay, so I've done research on the web and basically all of the solutions are to use a backup/repair cd to fix the problem.

HOWEVER, I don't have one of those CD's for that computer.

My desktop is a "HP media center pc m7664x."

Is there a way possible to fix my computer while still retaining all the info. on it such as files and pictures?

Also, does Microsoft give out recovery CD's for specific computers?

Thanks in advance.

In addition, Safe Mode won't work, it keeps giving me the same error. I can press f8 to get all the options, it seems like I just can't boot.
