Hi Mark,
This might be an issue with the corruption of IconCache.db. Let’s try rebuilding it and check if that helps.
- Click Start >> type in “control folders “and hit the Enter button.
- Under “Folder Options” click View Tab and then select “Show hidden files and folders” Apply the settings.
- Open a Windows Explorer window.
- Go to C:\Users\ (User Name)\AppData\Local
- Right click on IconCache.db and click on Delete.
- Click on Yes to confirm the deletion.
NOTE: This deletes the file to the Recycle Bin. It is safe to empty the Recycle Bin when finished.
- Close the window.
- Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Restart the computer.
- When you go back, you will notice the Size of the IconCache.db file is smaller, and the Date Modified is now the current date.
NOTE: If for some reason IconCache.db is not there or the size has not changed much, just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a couple of times in some cases.
- The icon cache has been rebuilt.
- Open Folder Options to select “Do not show hidden files and folders”.
