Lester Pierre, HelliwellM, & imdangerous,

There is a whole discussion of this issue, along with several different fixes depending on your particular devices, on the HP web site here:

HP Notebook PCs -  Error: HIDData.exe has stopped working

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01712518&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

There is also a download here that has been helpful in some of these situations:

Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you,

Hello Lester,

Thanks for using the Microsoft Answers Forum.

Are you by any chance running a Bluetooth mouse with your system? This error is sometime related to hardware not having the correct drivers or software installed with the device. Make sure that any device you are plugging in is completely compatible with the 64bit Vista operating system. You might want to uninstall the drivers for the device and try re-installing them in compatibility mode. While this mode will not allow you to install drivers in a 32bit mode it will at least let you determine if the device will work while being installed with another operating system.

Give this a shot and let us know if you have a Bluetooth mouse. Also, what device are you plugging in when you receive this error?

Let us know.
