SP3 is available for XP. You should install SP3 and see if that helps your problem.

Hi,
a. Have you installed XP service pack 3 as suggested by zuhl3156 in his earlier post?
b. Are you able to play other games after formatting the PC?
Check which version of DirectX is installed on the computer. Refer the KB article mentioned below:

You may download the DirectX end user Runtime Web installer and install it on your computer.
