Blue Screen errors cbs package servicing failure and windows wcp other failures

My laptop goes to blue screen a few times a week. Nothing new was added and no changes were made before this started.  It has been going on awhile.   I recently reset the programs to factory settings and reinstalled Microsoft Student Office, and added a new McAfee security program as my Norton was about to expire and wanted to make sure it wasn't the Norton.  Same problem.  Only now has run check disk twice in one week when booting and seems a little slower.

I'm not very fluent in computereze.  My computer is about 3 years old and I don't want to spend a lot on tech service unless it is a simple problem and worth it.  Is there something I can do?  Is it worth a hiring someone?

I appreciate the guidance,

Linda

    Hi,

    1. Could you provide us the exact error messages?

    Method 1.

Let us run the SFC scan and verify it prevents this error to occur.

Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file.

Refer to the article below for steps and more information about sfc scan.

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Method 2.

I would ask you to download, install and run the checksur tool and then check if issue occurs.

Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

    Method 3.

Also, you are recommended to download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website (Video card, network card drivers) and also you may check if there are any chipset driver updates available. You may need to contact the computer manufacturer for these drivers.

For more information refer to the links below:

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properlyhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

    Method 4.

Disable Automatic Restart from  the System Properties.

    a. Right click on Computer and go to Properties.

    b. Click on Advanced System Settings.

    c. Click on Settings under System and Recovery.

    d. Remove the checkmark from Automatic restart under System Failure pane.

Now check if there is a dump file created.

    Hope this helps.

Make sure that you uninstalled all of Norton.

Above link is to the Norton Removal Tool.

Go to your Laptop/Computer Manufacturer's website > Drivers and Downloads Section > Key in your Model number > Look for latest Vista Drivers for it > Download/install
     them.

    Cheers.
