Error while accessing CD drive "Windows cannot access the specified devices, path, or file. You may not have the appropricate permissions to access the item"

Original title:  Access CDrom error

When I try to open the CDrom drive using explorer I get this error "Windows cannot access the specified devices, path, or file. You may not have the appropricate permissions to access the item."

Hi BobHep,

1.    When was the last time it was working fine?

2.    Do you have any third party CD\DVD burning software installed on the computer?

Method 1

Refer the below Microsoft article and run the fix it tool available.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Method 2

If the above step fails then check in the device manager if the CD drive is working fine.

a)   Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button

b)   Click Control Panel, click  System and Security, and then, under  System, click Device Manager.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
