I have just installed Windows 7 (Love it) and after installing my other software the start menu will highlight the new programs in yellow until i open them.

Is there a way to clear this yellow? I have opened most but some are just part of the install and i will never open all of them.

Hi,

The method that you have tried is actually the way to keep new programs from getting highlighted.

This will remain un-highlighted only when this option is unchecked. If you check it back, the program will again get highlighted in the start menu.

So it’s by design that the program has to be opened atleast once to remove the highlight from the list.

    Start Menu properties - Customize

remove check  "highlight newly installed programs"

This has cleared all new programs

Then i went back into the same and checked it so next time i add just one it will be highlighted.

I have your answer... I had the same question where I wanted to clear the newly-highlighted programs.  I had just installed Windows 7, so everything was new.  I didn't want to turn off the feature, I just wanted to clear the highlights.

What you do is go into Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, Start Menu, Customize, and uncheck "Highlight newly installed programs" (just as other have suggested).  But then, restart the computer.  When it starts back up, re-check the "Highlight newly installed programs" box, and the feature will be turned back on, but the highlights will be gone.

Nevermind... my suggestion worked the first time I restarted the computer, but then I restarted again and the highlights are back.  It's a small thing, but Microsoft should really add a button to take care of this.  I seem to remember there being something like that in XP.

So how to slove this problem?  I just want to clear the highlights.  I still want Windows 7 inform me what program was installed / where's the program installed next time.

Please don't tell me click / execute each program once.  Thank you.
