Just installed Windows 7 yesterday and tried to Auto Update but NG. When I run Windows Update Diagnostic I receive an error code of 0x8E5E006B, service is not running. Tied several times without success. After searching the Web and Microsoft, I see this question has been coming up. Now just by chance I noticed that dispite putting in the Unlock key that Windows did not activate. I thought it was done at key entry. Could this be the simple answer. (Just holding off untill I am satisfied with my hard drive)

Click Start

Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD

Click 'Run as Administrator'

At the Command Prompt, type: sfc /scannow

This will check for any integrity violations

Restart your system and try again.

Windows 10 auto updates not working code 0x80073712.  I have tried the above as it is the only info I can find and it does not work, also tried in safe mode and the same result as follows: "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation" any help to resolve this long term issue would be appreciated.

Thank you for the info. My indexing (Windows Search) was not working (Index not build) and giving me the error 0x8E5E006B. I have applied the sfc /scannow and it works after reboot.

    Thank you

Thanks for a quick response. Ran sfc /scannow and Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix them. The log it created is big.

Restarted and my problems were gone. Thanks for the help.
