Control panel, system restore fail to load.

I have Vista and have been experiencing problems with my computer for a few weeks now.  I did not make any changes to the computer before this problem occurred.  I have ran McAfee repeatedly so I do not think it is a virus.

I am unable to access the control panel, personalization, windows updates, etc.  Every time I try to load these pages, I keep getting a blank page that says "Page failed to load."  I also get an error message 65535 when I try to install anything on the computer.

I read that system restore can revert it back to the original settings, but I cannot run the computer under the administrator account, nor am I able to perform a system restore.  Either way I get the 65535 error message.

Also, I recently moved, so I do not know where my Vista disks are.

Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Hi Lindsay2367,

Looks like some files are missing or corrupted. You can try running the System File Checker and letting us know the results, this will scan protected system files and replace incorrect versions, with the correct Microsoft versions of the files.

i. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories,

right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

ii. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

Check the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 “How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7”

I have the exact same problem!  For me it happened after I downloaded LogonStudio.  I'm afraid to uninstall it because it renamed all my pictures.  I don't want to lose all of them.  I am really mad and frustrated!  I cannot find an answer.
