but with this vista once i plug my card reader the lamp is lit on but never gets turned off and when i try to use card reader from my application I cannot access it because alegedly vista grabs control over it and refuses to release it.

I use credit card similar smart card and card reader to read it.

Pls help. which windows service might grabs card reader for infinity?

Rustam Issabekov,

Visit the following link and download your card reader's drivers:

http://support.gemalto.com/?id=46 (Scroll down to the English version and get the Vista drivers.)

Make sure you download the version that corresponds with your clients computers OS type, i.e. 32bit or 64bit, this could be the reason why it is not working properly.

To Determine if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit system:

Click Start -> right-click Computer -> select Properties

In the System window, under System Type: it will show you 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System.

After you install the drivers check to see if your device is fully recognized and functional before you run your custom program. This will give us an idea as to what is locking your device and preventing you from accessing it. Let us know your results so we can further assist you.

    5.       Have you ever been able to access your smart card with your card reader using Windows Vista?

Yes, some of our clients have computers with Vista, and everything is ok(once i plug card reader it is used for 5-6 seconds by vista and then vista releases card reader). This case is the only one, may be because of business edition of this vista?
