I searched Google, and found the common answer "run chkdsk with /r /b /f  flags". However, Windows finds no issue with the hard drive.

Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.

 475374591 KB total disk space.

  93899896 KB in 171068 files.

     96352 KB in 34366 indexes.

         0 KB in bad sectors.

352855 KB in use by the system.

65536 KB occupied by the log file.

 381025488 KB available on disk.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.

118843647 total allocation units on disk.

95256372 allocation units available on disk.

Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.

Since, this is a Windows 7 x64 Professional system, I am hoping it's not because the log file is full - because I'm unaware of how to clean it and the log file size shouldn't (in theory) be limited to the 32-bit word-length maximum.

Any ideas why I would be getting a "corrupt drive" error/dirty bit flag, when the drive passes the chkdsk test(s)?

How can I manually reset the dirty bit flag, if chkdsk is not resetting the flag?

>>>NOTE: Please don't suggest using the install disk, as this is how I have already run chkdsk, and got the returned results, above.<<<

Hi BAX-L4,

From the CBS error log, it appears that System File Checker (SFC) scan could not repair the “Autochk.exe” file of Microsoft-Windows-Autochk.

You may perform repair install to fix the issue.

 Follow these steps:

a. Log in to an administrator account on your computer.

b. Disable antivirus software, other security program and any third-party firewall.

Note Ensure to enable the antivirus software, security program and firewall after successful installation.

c. Insert the Windows 7 installation DVD onto the DVD drive.

d. While still in Windows 7, click on the “Run setup.exe” option in the AutoPlay window.

e. When the User Account Control (UAC) message is displayed, click "Yes".

f. Click the "Install Now" button to start the installation.

g. Click the "Go online" to get the latest updates.

h. Check the "I accept the license terms" box and click "Next".

i. Click the "Upgrade" option.

Note During the installation process, your screen may flash and computer will restart a few times.

Follow the on-screen instructions and proceed with the installation.

After booting to the desktop, perform Disk cleanup to delete unwanted files.

Note You may have to activate your copy of Windows.

Warning

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
