All of my icons on the desktop have changed. Now they all have a generic icon on top of the real icon. This even happens when I install a new program.I have deleted the iconcache file and rebooted, but that did not help.Any ideas?

The problem is not caused by deleting iconcache file. You might have applied some tweak to remove shortcut arrow from shortcut icons and the icon reference is missing to replace the default arrow icon.

So either you can restore to default setting or Run Registry Editor **(regedit.exe)**and go to - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Shell Iconsand delete the value called 29You may need to restart or logoff your PC to take effect.

I'm guessing this will fix my problem as well, however, I'm on Win 7 and this regedit path does not exist on my machine... alternate path?

    I have quite similar problem.

My shortcut icon sometimes became invincible almost everytime I turned on win7 (the shortcut exists and can runs the program perfectly but the icon picture is missing).

I resized the icon to smallest and used the tweak to removed shortcut arrows too.

The thing is when you resized the icon back to normal (normal icon just partly visible) or larger icon, it's became visible again.

Can you help me ? Thanks before.
