Error Code: 080070424 (Can't install updates)

everytime I turn my PC on i get a window open saying "windows can't check for update". when i do it manually, i get "Error(s) Found: Code 80070424 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. i have followed all the appropriate help but it still does not work. i tried downloading itunes and it does not work because of this. Have made no recent changes to my computer. i have tried using the services to start windows updater, basically followed the help provided in thr help section

Please, please help :(

    is it a laptop? does your time work? if you turn your pc on? is the time correct? that could be one of the problems i encountered myself
