I am using Windows 7 Professional and Windows Live Mail and I'm unable to setup or access any IMAP email account.

I have Telnet started and running.

Is there any other service I need to have running to be able to access IMAP accounts?

my error message is

Configuration:

   Account: Gmail (finninj)

   Server: imap.gmail.com

User name: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

   Protocol: IMAP

   Port: 993

   Secure(SSL): 1

   Code: 800ccc0e

I have also tried to set up my gmail account in Zimpra desktop and Outlook 2007 and I am unable to do so.

Hi

If you donot run your own email server, then stick with POP3.

Start with Outlook 7, follow this, http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=86374

    Hi

    Why IMAP and Not pop3?

Did you configured correctly the SMTP?

It should work with either POP or IMAP, your choice. I can help you with Windows Live Mail if you will post the complete error message you get.

I have tried every iteration of gmail that I can with no luck.

Ihave tried to set-up my wife's gmail account in Outlook 7, Windows Live and a desktop program called Zimbra and have not been able to set it up as POP or IMAP.

I have tried a variety of different ports and other tweaks and nothing seems to work.
