Sounds like the MIG file is corrupted :(
Is it on a External Hard drive? If so, what happens when you try to import the info from the MIG file from within Vista?
Same Error?
You may have just lost your Data/settings :(

I have recently backed up my Vista Home Premium x64 System using Windows Easy Transfer Wizard, have re-installed Windows and can now not access the MIG file properly. its 18Gb in size and cannot be copied to another disk as it gives an 0x80070450 Error after copying 7gb's worth of data. I have tried running CHKDSK thorough and it doesnt progress after the 4th stage, I left it running for 14 hours but no joy. I've read lots of different information regarding this and there doesn''t seem to be any magic wand to recover the files? I have managed to get hold of a migrecovery tool but this too fails after 27%.
Any help would be gratefully received!!!

I found that if the file was damage or corrupt that I was able to recover most of the files using MigRecover tool.
