Windows Installer Compatibility

I was having trouble with .msi files. I started lookking around for .msiexec. I found it in System32. I was checking it's properties and under compatibility mode it said Windows 95! I'm running Vista Home Premium.

The product is Windows installer

File version: 4.5.6002.18005

Product version: 4.5.6002.18005

Product Name: Windows Installer-Unicode

Is there any way to update this to make it more compatible to Vista or at least XP? I am having trouble installing newer visualisation files from windows. Most are .msi applications. Why would they put such an old version in Vista?

Hi paparandy

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers Forums!

The msiexec file is the same files which is used right from windows 95 to Windows 7, the possibality of  installation would be because of corrupt windows installer. hence download Windows Installer 4.5 and install it onto your computer.

We need to Install the latest version of Windows Installer which is 4.5, the link to download that is:

All the best!
