I found the answer I was looking for in Chapter 4 of the 2003 edition of Microsoft Press' "Windows XP Registry Guide" -- Open Command Prompts at Folders. For this feature, the registry works the same in both XP and Vista.

Not sure where to ask the following. Appreciate any help. Thanks.
On my laptop running XP Home Edition, I can open the console window pointing to a specific folder by right-clicking the folder and selecting the "CMD Prompt Here" menu that pops up. Last year I added the "CMD Prompt Here" menu by making a change to the registry to enable/create it. It is very convenient because it eliminates the necessity of typing in a long path to change directory.
I would like to add the same folder right-click menu to my desktop running Vista Home Premium. Is it possible? If so, where can I find the documentation?
Thanks

Hello Bill,
Thank you for posting. CMD Prompt Here is not an available option when right clicking a folder in Vista.
Thanks,
