Speech Recognition error message: "The Wizard could not start."

I want to learn how to do Speech Recognition, but I get this message when I click on "Start Speech Recognition" in the Control Panel.  Also get same message when I click "Set Up Microphone".

I do not have a mic hooked up at this time.  Should I?

Message:  The Wizard could not start.     Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check you audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel.

I don't know what the message is referring to.

Can you help me?

Debbie

Obviously, you have to plug your microphone in order for you to be the boss of your PC! ;)

Im getting the same problem.  Leobelbas ' remark below shows that no one, especially Leobelbas , knows how to resolve this problem.  A microphone does not need to be plugged in to set up Speech recognition for the first time.  When one completes this process then a microphone can be set up.

I've searched & searched thru Google & all forums lead to no conclusion.  So many users have experienced the same wizard error message & the problem has not been shown as being resolved in any forums available in google.

The problem exists when the "Start Speech Recognition" link is clicked.  An error box pops up that reads:

    "The Wizard could not start

Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio devices and Sound themes control panel."

Done! the error box still shows, now what??

Here is The Answer for this question. (The Wizard could not start.)    First Go to the Start Button, In the search menu Type in System restore    2. it will show up in the start menu then click on it, (you will have to confirm it as you are an Administrator owner

    3. You will see the 2 options. -Undo System Restore will be already selected

but you will have to select :- Choose a different  restore point. once you done then click **Next Button     4.**then you will see the descripiton and the Date and time which they were unistalled on.

The you will look for and select   Install: Installed DirectX After you done Hit Next Button

You will see Confirm restore point, Time and Description: Install: Installed DirectX and the Finish Button,

So, you will have to Hit the Finish Button. After your computer will request to be Restart then hit ok.           Your computer will take a little while to Update the driver. I know it really works better and

Please ,Let me know if this fixed your problem.                                                                       Thank you

I got a headset with a microphone on it, plugged it in, then the Wizard worked.  (I am surprised that this is the ONLY way to make it work, but it does work.)   Being new to this process, I did not appreciate the short answer I got from Leobelbas.

    Hope this helps.
