Hi,

About 2 weeks ago I have started to experience errors during windows update - all new updates failed to be installed with the error 800736B3

I have downloaded standalone installer Windows6.1-KB2284742-x64 and tried to run it alone.

From the CBS logs I got a lot of errors starting with this rows:

    1. Which other updates are failing to install besides KB2284742? (Post a few other KB numbers)
    2. Can you manually update Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) successfully?

    After the last clean install:

    1. How long was the computer connected to the internet or any local networks (i.e., other computers) before MSE was installed & updated?
    2. Did you insert a flash drive and/or SDCard or connect the computer to any external drive before you got the computer fully-patched and MSE installed?
    3. Was Win7 64-bit preinstalled on the computer when you bought it and did you use the disks that came with the computer (or the hidden Recovery partition) to do the clean installs?

    1. This is new installation
    2. Microsoft Security Essentials is the only AV software running on this computer, no spyware and third party firewall is installed
    3. Never
    4. I have formated it several times after I got it (it's a work laptop)

I had no problems with Windows Update till 10/14 when I saw the failure of installing Windows updates for the first time

Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

    1. Did you upgrade to Win7 or is it a new computer?
    2. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?
    3. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer?
    4. Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
