I tried re-booting after this error code, but when running Defender again, the same error code came up.

Hey billyforJesus,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum!

What version of Operating System are you running (Windows Vista or XP)?

What is the security software installed on your computer?

Did you make any changes on your system right before this problem occurred?

The error code indicates that Defender was interrupted before it could finish its update or the Windows Defender service might not be running on the computer.

Step1:

You can fix this by manually updating Defender.

Follow the steps below in order to do that:

1.Click Start, type defender in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

  1. Click the Help options arrow, and then click Check for updates.

Step2:

If the issue still persists, try to start the Windows Defender service.

Follow the steps given below:

1.Click on Start and in the search box type ‘Services”.

  1. On the Services window, look for the Windows Defender service and make sure it is started.
  2. If the Windows Defender service is not started, double click on the service and change the startup type to Automatic.

Sometimes the security software installed on the computer disables the Windows Defender.

The security software and the Windows Defender running at the same time can cause system instability.

Let us know if the above steps help you.

Regards,

Manasa P- Microsoft Support.
