What version of Windows, including service pack (right-click My Computer > Properties)

What happened just before the problem arose?

Click Start > Run > services.msc > OK

Scroll down to "Windows Audio"

The Windows Audio service should be Started and its "Startup type" should be "Automatic."  If it is not started, double-click on the entry and click the Start button.  If this fails to start the service and instead generates an error message, the file for the Audio Service may have become corrupt or deleted (although this file should be protected by Windows File Protection).

Search your system drive (probably C:) for

             audiosrv.dl                (that's only one L)

Make sure to look in "System folders," "Hidden files and folders," and "Subfolders."

You should find audiosrv.dll (with two Ls) in C:\Windows\system32.

If it's not there, it should be in C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

If it's not there either, do you have a file named audiosrv.dl_ in C:\i386?

For everyone who are trouble with the above problem, here is the solution,

I am too a victim of the problem,

    Let's go to the solution

If your Windows Audio service is not working and when you try to start it in services it displays

    an error message

Windows Audio service cannot start on local computer

ERROR 2: The system cannot find the path specified

    http://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/tutorials/217992d1340526780-services-restore-default-services-windows-7-windows_audio.reg

    • Download the above registry file .
    • Right click it and click merge.

Now restart your computer  and you can see your audio working.

Sometimes your speakers might not work but your headphones do,In such cases

    • Go to Device manager
    • Then click on Sound, video and Game controllers
    • Then uninstall your audio drivers (IDT or Realtek) and
    • Now restart and your speakers will work

    Thankyou

There seem to be many ways that Windows sounds can stop working.

When you say there was a problem with your new RAM, do you mean that the new module you installed was the incorrect type or was defective?  Is the original RAM now in the machine?

Open Device Manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc > OK) and see if there are any warning icons associated with the sound devices (if so, please double-click on the entry and report "Device status").

If Windows Audio Services is now reported to be running (status = started) when you open the Services applet, you may also need to re-select your sound device.  Click Control Panel > Sounds and click the "Audio" tab.  Make sure that your sound device is selected in the drop-down boxes, particularly the one for "Sound playback."
