When I try to install the Windows Service pack 1 on my computer, I hit restart it goes to 30%, then restarts goes to 99% then says it fails and reverts back.  When the computer comes on it says Error E_FAIL 0x80004005.  I have tried the troubleshooter and the update readiness this and have also shut off my anti virus.  This has happened 4 times now.  It is 64 bit windows 7 professional

Error code 80004005 appears to be related to Win7 x64 computer that have used the Windows Mail "hack".

    Have you used that hack?

Well the first option is way out of my scope and experience with a computer.  The second option I am not to sure of either....  When it come to the anti virus I use avast and had no problems with the update on my laptop.

Although the title of this article shows a different return code, see if the registry key it refers to is set to 8 instead of 14 . If you do need to edit that key, please make a backup of it prior to editing it -  Windows 7 Service Pack 1 fails with error code 0x8004a029

If that does not resolve the error, then try configuring the system to Clean boot prior to another attempt at installing SP1 -  How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If the error still persists, you may need to uninstall the antivirus software, restart, and then apply SP1. Depending upon what the installed AV is, you might also need to run their removal tool to ensure that all remnants of it are no longer present on the system -
