How can I use the file names of photos as the caption in Windows LIve Photo Gallery? I have very many photos that I have named over the years, and it would be nice simply to use the file name as the caption when creating slide shows.

The issue with that is, these captions will not be listed in the slide shows, if that was what you were hoping for,

Not any, not even the name is available to be listed in a slide show.

So as organization goes,

You can search for names just as easily if not easier than anything,

The exception to this might be descriptive tags,

On the find tab section there is a tags listing, and if you click on it, all of the tags are listed but these are descriptive tags.

So for easy access descriptive tags are an easier faster way to find photos, because it has a generic list available for quick access.

I'll add that although captions are written into the properties of the photo files, there isn't a easy way to search for a caption,

Even people tags are not written into the photos properties, this information is kept in a folder outside the properties of the photos, worthless if you transfer these photos to another person or editing program at this point.

You would have to go to windows media center for this information to be listed in a slide show, and also burn your dvd there as well, but wmc will also list the name in a slide show, so your net gain for adding the captions as the same as the name of the photo files would be zero,

If you want this information on the face of the photos, and it would also print out on it, this would be worth doing,

But you would have to do this in microsoft paint, not either of the other programs,

I don't care about organization or searching. I have used descriptive file names for a number of years now. What I am interested in is using those descriptive file names as captions in a slide show without having to retype them into Windows Live Photo Gallery fields for the files. Surely there must be a way to do that--if not, I guess I'm not too impressed with WLPG's abilities. After all, it shouldn't be that hard--the information is part of the file. Can the file names be imported to some other place in the file information that can then be used for captions to produce a slide show displaying captions?

The tags and captions pane, on the right side has a listing to add a caption, click on it, select the photos you want to add the same caption to, then click on add a caption, type the caption in the box and click any blank spot to save the caption to the photos you select to add the caption to,

As i explained windows live photo gallery will not list a caption or file name or descriptive tag in a slide show at this time, the feature does not exist in this program that you want to use it for.

Open windows media center, it will list all information in a slide show if a setting is turned on,

Go to settings, then pictures, then slide shows, check the box to show all information, save.

The file name/ date/ and star rating will be shown on the top left corner of your screen in a slide show.

The problem now is you can't burn a dvd disk of this slide show, in wmc :(

I don't use windows media player, I doubt it will be able to burn the information in a slide show either.but you never know look into it,

Adding the information to the face of the photo in paint, this information will be shown in any photo editing program in a slide show and you will be able to have this information not only print out in a photo in will be included in any slide show you burn to a dvd.

Everyone has paint if you have windows,

Click the start button or windows logo on the bottom left,

Click on all programs listing at the bottom,

Look for and click on accessories, paint is listed.

Right click any photo and on the right click menu list point at open with, paint is listed.
