Can't remove a printer

I have disconnected a laser printer I no longer use from the computer and then in Devices & Printers I right clicked the printer icon and selected Remove Device.  The printer icon disappears but as soon as I refresh the window the printer icon comes back!  I have done this several times but can't get rid of the printer. 

Is there something else I need to do to stop it coming back?

dmkg,

A stuck print job in the queue will prevent the printer from being removed. Try runningDelete Print Jobs to remove the stuck print job.

Disconnect the printer.

Uninstall the printer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

    You are suggesting using Malicious Software Removal Tool, I can't see the connection with removing a printer!

    No there is not, that is the first thing I checked.
