Restoring Previous Screen Resolution

Hello -

I have a Dell Mini 10 that runs Windows XP.  After a nasty malware attack, I took it in and had they had to restore/reinstall the operating system from a partition (there is no disc drive in the mini).  This worked great on getting rid of the virus; however, the screen resolution is now completely out of whack and everything appears stretched.  The mini 10 is supposed to have a default resolution of 1024 x 576, which is a better fit for the widescreen display despite the fact that it does have a max resolution of 1024 x 768.  Currently, that max resolution is what the screen is set at because there is no way for me to manually change it to the 1024 x 576.  I called the place that originally fixed my computer and they told me to reinstall the specific video drivers for the Dell Mini 10, which I found on the Dell website - but that did not help at all and I'm still having the same screen resolution issue.  It is making everything very difficult to see since it is all stretched.

Thanks in advance!

Hi M_B,

I would suggest you to first completely uninstall the display drivers from your Dell Mini 10 both from Add or Remove Programs and Device Manager and later reinstall the drivers that you downloaded from the dell website and check if it helps you fix the display resolution issue.

To uninstall display drivers from Add or remove programs, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Start, click on control panel.
  2. Click on Add or remove programs.
  3. In the list select display drivers Program.
  4. Right click on it and you should see the option to uninstall the program.
  5. Click on uninstall and it should remove the display program from your computer.

Uninstall the display drivers from device manager. While uninstalling the device from the device manager, make sure you follow the steps below:

a.  Click on Start.

b.  Access Control Panel, navigate to System > Hardware > Device Manager.

c.  Open Device Manager and expand Display adaper.

d.  Select the Nvidia and uninstall the device.

Restart the computer and allow Windows to load the generic drivers and later install the display drivers that you downloaded from the Dell website and check if it helps.

Hope this helps. Let us know the result.

Thanks and Regards,
