my touch pad is working well but the mouse pointer(cursor) is sometimes not active. When pointed against some words for command when browsing, it does not seems to be active in the sense that it does not allow you to point at whatever you are trying to choose and therefore will not open it.

What might be the course of this?

Hi,

1.        What is the make & model of your computer?

2.        How long have you been facing this issue on your computer?

3.        Do you face this issue in any particular application?

4.        Which operating system is installed on your computer?

Let’s follow these methods & check if it helps:

Method 1

You may download & install the latest mouse drivers from the manufacturer’s website. Thereafter check if the issue persists:

Update drivers: recommended links

Method 2

a) You may boot into ‘Safe mode’ and check if the issue persists. It will start Windows 7 with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed, follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode:

i. Restart the computer.

ii. Start tapping F8 key.

iii. You will get advanced boot option window.

iv. Select the option “Safe mode”.

Refer:Start your computer in safe mode ****

b) If the issue does not persist in safe mode, you may configure the computer in clean boot state and check if the issue reoccurs. It will start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts.

The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

 Hope the information helps.
