You can enable logging and get a more detailed error message there:
Connect-ExchangeOnline -EnableErrorReporting -LogDirectoryPath <Path to store log file> -LogLevel All

A colleague of mine is trying to connect to Exchange online and is getting an error below. First it was with the v1 module then he installed v2 and the same issue. Strange is that the error is not shown correctly . He says his password is working.
Anyone has any tips what to check?
