Hello YTOLIA,

You need to obtain a Rights Account Certificate.

To do so, follow the instructions in the link above for Set permissions that Suuresh sent to you.

If you do not have a certificate, contact a network administrator or, if your computer is connected to a home network or if it is connected directly to the Internet, you can obtain a certificate online from Microsoft by usingWindows Live credentials. In the User Accounts dialog box, clickAdd, and then in the Rights Management Configuration dialog box, click.NET Passport account. The wizard will walk you through the process of creatingWindows Live credentials and obtaining a certificate.

  • Rights Account Certificates obtained using Windows Live credentials can only be used to view XPS documents that have been sent to you, not to digitally sign or set permissions for a document you’ve created.
  • Rights Account Certificates obtained using Windows Live credentials apply only to XPS documents created in theMicrosoft Office system. Documents created in other programs can only be accessed and protected using a corporate Rights Account Certificate.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Marilyn

Ah, found the links but already tried them. Got no further than step one since "Click the Edit menu, point to Permission, and then click Restrict Permission As." doesn't apply..

My edit menu doesn't have Permission as an option, just copy, find, etc. I have a [Permissions] button on the screen but all that does is give me

    • Set Permissions - DOESN'T WORK 'COS "Unable to set up rights... etc. etc.
    • View your permissions (Greyed out)
    • remove permissions (greyed out)
    • Choose default account - SEE PREVIOUS POST.

So.. the Microsoft article on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Set-permissions-for-an-XPS-document is of absolutely no use.

Presumably there is a solution somewhere but, as yet, I have no evidence to support that theory.

I'm having the same problem with xps in Win 7 home and everywhere I've looked I've found the same answer. (As above) Now this is all very well if you are fluent in such things but to me it's generally incomprehensible gibberish.

User accounts dialogue box? WHAT user accounts dialogue box? There certainly isn't one visible in any of the xps menus that I can see. The nearest I've got is [permissions] [choose default account] [add new account].

Clicking on [add new account] rewards me with the message "The XPS viewer cannot activate any rights management accounts on this machine", which brings me neatly back to square one.

I'm no idiot but a step-by-step guide to solving this would be nice. Apparently there are "instructions in the link above " but I can't see a link on this page.
