Error Code 10016

Hi.

The following error is logged at each cold boot. (Win7 SP1, 64 bit)

Error, Event 10016, DistributedCOM

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission

for the COM Server application with CLSID {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}

and APPID {344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B} to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18)

from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified

using the Component Services administrative tool.

The CLSID/APPID refer to ‘IPBusEnum’ and internet wisdom indicates that I need to alter the permissions associated with this service.

However these options are greyed out and inaccessible. I am the only User on this laptop and have Administrator rights.

Can anyone help? What should I change, where and how?

    Hi Alan917,

Do you remember making any changes to the computer which the issue started?

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: follow step 7 to place the computer back to it's usual way

After clean boot if we still face the problem follow the next step as mentioned below and check if the issue is fixed

    a)     Click Start, type dcomcnfg in the Search bar, and hit enter.

    b)    In Component Services, double-click Component Services, and then double-click Computers.

    c)     Right-click My Computer and then click Properties.

    d)    Click the COM Security tab.

    e)     In the Launch and Activation Permissions area, click Edit Default.

    f)     Click Add, type Network Service, and then click OK.

    g)    While Network Service is selected, click to select the Allow check boxes for the following items:

    h)     Local Launch

    i)      Remote Launch

    j)      Local Activation

    k)     Remote Activation

    l)      Click OK two times.

    Hope this information helped!

    Regards,

    Syed Karim

    Syed

Thanks for your assistance. This error occured at every cold boot since the start of the event log (Oct 2010).

I could not face, at this stage, working through the MS troubleshooting procedure so I skipped directly to adding permissions to the Network Service.

This seems to have done the trick. 2 cold boots since then and no error messages.

    Thanks

    Alan
