Security Warning Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely? as found on Internet Explorer appears on desktop without IE being started.

The pop up box advising that this webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the entire webpage, has been regularly appearing on my desktop, a few minutes after switch on, even when I have not started Internet Explorer. This began recently, after I upgraded to the new 2011 Windows Live suite of programs. I have also upgraded to the new Internet Explorer 9 Beta. I see in the forums how to disable this warning entirely, but my question is what is causing this warning in this case and how can I find what program is trying to access the internet in the background? I have right clicked the box and looked at the More Info section but it doesn't tell me what program or action has initiated the warning. Can I fix this problem for this program or programs only, without disabling the warning box for IE9 in normal use? I have run a Windows Defender and full Mcafee virus scan, finding nothing. It would seem some harmless piece of software is being prevented from checking for it's updates or similar. If I click Yes or close the window with the warning, there seem to be three on top of each other, and they only appear one time unless the computer is switched off and started again, but I just clicked No instead and there were only two boxes on top of each other that time. The box appears for all users including in the administrator user account. They appear behind the open windows, such as the virus scan window or Live Mail, or when I was searching program files or something, and reveal themselves when the window is closed or minimised. They are there even as I type now...... Any ideas?

Hi,

Mixed content situation can happen on HTTPS secure websites such as online stores or financial sites that display images, banners, or scripts that are coming from a server that is not secured. IE has defaulted to prompt user for next course of action when encounter mixed content as displaying mixed content carries risk that non-secure web page or script will be able to access information from the secure content.

Step 1: You can do a clean boot to check if it is caused by any program.

“How to perform Clean Boot” http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article.

Step 2: You can also turn it off in Internet Explorer and check.

How to Disable and Turn Off Do You Want To View Only the Webpage Content that Was Delivered Securely Security Warning.

a)   Launch Internet Explorer.

b)   Going to Tools->Internet Options->Security

c)    Select the ‘Security’ tab

d)   Click the ‘Custom Level’ button

e)   In the ‘Miscellaneous’ section change “Display mixed content” to Enable

f)    Click on OK. Close internet options.

Many "secure" pages contain insecure content. Your bank may secure your information fields, while it displays graphics or serves pop-ups from an "insecure" server. You have decide whether there is sufficient risk to load the insecure elements.. You can deny their loading, and see if the site remains fully navigable. The fact that you are using a beta browser to navigate secure sites, indicates that you have a high tolerance for risk.

I have been tracing the problem program, which was quite time consuming, but I believe I have found the relevant one, although I have yet to carry out double checks for confirmation, but I shall post this now subject to further revision if required due to other peoples interest in the subject. The problem was soon traced to one of the startup programs, and seems to be HP Health Check Scheduler, c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Health Check\HPHC_Scheduler.exe which is causing the box to appear. This is one of the standard programs that came with this HP Compaq SR5726UK desktop computer. The box can be turned off by Tools, Internet Options, Security, (ensuring that the Internet Zone has the blue highlight around Internet to show this is the zone the settings apply to) Custom, Miscellaneous, Display Mixed Content and check enable and then click OK to change the settings. But this is rather like fixing a warning light by taking out the bulb. I have now also found other problems with IE9 Beta. I have items for sale on http://www.vivastreet.co.uk (under a different name, in case of any accusations of plugging!) but cannot sign into the account unless compatibility view is enabled. Worse still is the situation on the websitehttp://www.boots.com which is a very sizeable UK business concern. This provides more difficulties than the Hotel California, as you can't even get as far as checkout. If you click on items to add to your basket, the total appears at the top of the page if compatibility view has been enabled, but click on View Basket and the basket comes up as empty, so you can never go to checkout. I have added the website to the list of trusted sites, and set the security level for this group to the minimum level, enabled pop ups, and enabled the previously mentioned Display Mixed Content, and also under the privacy tab added the site to the list of allowed sites for cookies. I am sorry to say that I had to download Mozilla Firefox before I could place an order. However, even Mozilla came up with a warning before showing the basket page, which stated: Security Warning - You have requested an encrypted page that contains some unencrypted information. Information on this page could easily be read by a third party. The page in question also had the https prefix. My current conclusion is that there is a distinct problem with IE9 Beta when it encounters any mixed content webpages, and this may be something that will require updates from Microsoft to fix. If anyone has found a cure all box to check or setting to alter though, I will gladly try it! I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with all the latest updates installed. I suppose I shall carry on with IE9 Beta for now and hope that it's not too long before someone comes up with a clever update to sort it out, and use Mozilla when it won't work properly. When will the full release IE9 arrive, I wonder?

    Hi Rhws,

Step 1: Check if the same happens in safe mode with networking.

"Start your computer in safe mode":http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

"Advanced startup options (including safe mode)

Step 2: Reset Internet Explorer and check.

    How to reset internet explorer?

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

    Reset IE disclaimer:

Please note that running Reset Internet Explorer Settings will reset all user-defined settings including those set by installed extensions, toolbars and other add-ons to IE Defaults. This includes all Security, Privacy and Zone settings. Also this will clear browsing history, delete all temporary Internet Files, cookies, form data and especially all stored passwords.

I am having the exact same problems as Puzzled from Devon, with pop-up boxes advising that "this webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection".  It happens even before IE is opened.  The fixes suggested by Diana do not work unfortunately.  I too have recenetly upgraded to the new Windows Live suite and IE9 Beta.  I'm also having problems loading my internet banking page, and both problems have only happened since upgrading.

    Any more suggestions please?
