Hello,

I purchased a mini pc from Bestar using jack'n'shop on Amazon and everything was working properly until just recently with the virus after four months Windows 10 Professional want's me to reactivate Windows and claims the Windows to be non-genuine. So I look on the bottom of the mini pc to get the product key and the key is partially illegible, and the supplier does not respond to my questions on Amazon. How do I reactivate Windows as I cannot use Visual Studio to access C# API now that the Windows 10 Professional is non-genuine?

If you activated a free upgrade to Windows 10 or bought and activated Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store, you'll have a digital license for your device instead of a product key. This means you can reinstall the same edition of Windows 10 that your device has a digital license for without entering a product key.

During reinstallation, if you’re asked to enter a product key, select Skip. In most cases, if Windows 10 was activated on your device before you reinstall, it will automatically activate after you go online.

Try this at an Administrator Command Prompt:

    wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

If there is any chance that the computer came with an OEM Windows 10 license, that command will read the embedded Product Key. It is more common that a consumer PC would be sold with Windows 10 Home, not Pro Edition.

If it does not display a 25 character Product Key, then there is no embedded Product Key.

Have you tried running the Activation Troubleshooter? That might also detect if your device has a digital license for some specific Edition of Windows 10. You could try running changepk /Troubleshoot to see.

The Generic Product Key for Windows 10 Pro is usually found in a file on Windows 10 install media at \sources\product.ini. For example, one line from that file reads:
"professional=VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T". This key will not activate Windows 10 Pro unless a device is already licensed for Windows 10 Pro.

If it turns out that you have a license only for Windows 10 Home, you would need to do a clean install of Windows 10 Home, or pay to upgrade your PC's license from Home to Pro.

    Hi,

If your product key is scratched, blurred, or otherwise unusable, contact the retailer who sold you the product. If you aren't able to get help from your retailer or have already tried and couldn't get a working key, call Microsoft Support.
