Continuing to have problems with Outlook 2016 receiving mail

About 2 months ago I started having issues with receiving email from Outlook. At the time, I was running Outlook 2010. We are running a pop account and the webmail is through aol.com (it was originally verizon.net and they discontinued the mail service and it was moved to aol.com)

I have rebuilt the profile and I am still having issues.

The error I am getting is 0x8004210A which after researching appears to be a timing error. I have not found anywhere to change those settings in Outlook.

I have checked mail by logging into my webmail (aol.com) account and mail is working there. I also created a new account profile on another computer running Windows 10, and it is working fine on that computer. I did get it working for a short period of time but that only last about 4 days before I started receiving the error message again.

I also started outlook.exe in safe mode and this time it gave me a different error message (0x800CCC92) which is apparently a username/password issue but I have re-entered the information several times, and again, it works when I log into webmail.

I also set up a new mail client (Thunderbird) and it works fine, but I'm not a big fan of Thunderbird's interface and I believe I read somewhere that it is no longer being developed.

This is becoming very frustrating and I do not know what to do next. Can anyone provide any suggestions or guidance? I have reviewed the error messages that Microsoft pointed me to, but the directions don't work with Outlook 2016.

Thank you

Elliot

    Hi @Elliot Jolesch ,
    Welcome to our forum.

    The error I am getting is 0x8004210A which after researching appears to be a timing error. I have not found anywhere to change those settings in Outlook.

    As I know, this error primarily arises when POP server is timing out while waiting for a response from email server. And we could try to change the setting in Outlook 2016 like below(File>Account settings>Account settings>choose your account>change>More settings>Advanced>increase the server time):

    Also, any errors on configuration of your account may also cause this error, in order to avoid it , it's suggsted to check your port and server settings. Based on my research, the pop setting of aol account may like below: POP3-995-SSL SMTP-465-SSL please kindly check it.

    Hope that could be helpful to you.

    @Jade Liang-MSFT

    Thank you for the information and the image, but when I followed your example, I get a different window after clicking on change and there is no option(s) at all.

    I have attached a screenshot of the menu I get, after clicking on change..... Is there something wrong with the install?
