LAN not detected

Hello,

Basically i am trying to connect my xbox360 through my windows 7 PC to share both files and internet. I have done this before with vista but i seem to hit a wall with 7

A few issues persist

  1. Xbox and PC cannot talk to one another, as in my PC does NOT detect my xbox
  2. Even more problem is that my PC does not detect an ethernet LAN connection at all. all it detects is my wireless card in network connections (CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK AND INTERNET>NETWORK CONNECTIONS)
  3. ICS sharing tab is not available; i would assume this is because i am only connected to one network and that is through my wireless card

What i do know is

  • i do have a crossover cable
  • the yellow ethernet light is on behind the case, telling me that it is not a motherboard issue
  • my xbox does work if connected directly into a router

this has frustrated me long enough, so if some could help that would be great.

Open Device Manager , look under Network adapters , and see if the Ethernet adapter has a problem.  If it isn't there, look for an unknown device.  You might have to install a driver program for it.

Thank you! it was a driver problem. but now i have stumbled into another problem. The ethernet is detecting an "unidentified network". It restricts me from changing the network type. Unlike my wireless netwrok (home) where i can switch the network type by just clicking on its icon, this unidentified network is public. What should i do
