Low memory issues when running Solidworks.

Original title: accessing  more than 4 GB ram

I have a Dell Presicion PWS690 computer running Vista Premium. It a 32 bit system. I am having memory issues when running Solidworks, saying I don't have enough memory and kicking me out of the program. The IT person installed an extra 8 Gb, so I now have 12 GB of ram installed but I believe it is only accessing less than 4. The task manager shows the physical memory available at almost zero. Can Vista only access up to 4 GB of ram, and how can I change this. It seems as I have an extra 8 GB that can't be accessed. Thanks.

Hi Sonic-Drill,

  1. Are you facing this issue only when running Solidworks?

You can try performing a clean boot and see if it helps.

A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue.

You may refer the following KB article to put the computer in clean boot:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

After the trouble shooting steps please refer to clean boot link to put the computer back to normal start up mode.

You can also refer to the following article and check.

Preventing low memory problems

If it happens only with Solidworks, then you can also get in touch with Solidworks support for further assistance.

Hope this information is helpful.
