Try this
Start > Computer > Organize > Folder and search options > View > Uncheck - Hide extensions for known file types

My scanner will save an image as a jpeg but my application requires the extension to be .jpg instead of .jpeg. In Windows XP I could easily change this, but in Windows 7 I can't see the extension to rename it.
