Task scheduler not starting a task

I want to start a program automatically when I log on.  I have set it up in task scheduler to do that but it does not show up (it should show a data window on the desktop).  If I go to Windows task manager it is not listed as a running process, however when I open task scheduler it says it is running and gives a start time which is when I loggied in as a user.

If I start the program manually from a shortcut with the same command as I used in task scheduler it starts, shows the data window, and shows up in the list of running processes.

Clicking run in the task scheduler window has no effect.  Any idea what can cause this? (NB: I have set up a delayed start if that is relevant)

That is odd, as long as it's running with your account it should be visible.  May I ask which program it is?

It is called Probe.  It provides info on CPU/Mboard temp and fan speeds and is bundled with ASUS motherboards.

Note that although task scheduler says it is running, Windows task manager does not list it so I suspect task scheduler is wrong.  It always has a visual element when I start it manually.

I am the only user and it is using my login.

Unfortunately the other startup method does not work - I get an error message about not being able to create an icon.  I forget the exact message but the program will only start if I wait until most of the startup routines are run which is why I am using the rask scheduler and I mentioned that I set it not to start until after a delay.

It's probably running as another user's security settings.  This means it is running, but invisible to you (hidden from your desktop).  On the General tab options for your scheduled task, make sure it's set to run with your username (in the security settings at the bottom).

However, there's an easier way to create a startup item.  Open your Start menu, then click All Programs.  In the list, right-click the Startup folder and choose Open*.  Now, any icon you put in here will automatically start when you turn on the computer.

*Bonus: If you use the "Open All Users" option, you can create a startup program that runs when any person logs in, not just you.
