Please mention the name of those services (along with brief description in case they are not Windows service)

Meanwhile if you find those services are very important to the environment and always needs to be run, follow the steps bellow:

    1. Go to Services.msc
    2. Right Click "Effective Service" then Properties
    3. Click on the Recovery tab, set the following:

First Failure = Restart the the Service

Second Failure = Restart the the Service

Subsequent Failures = Restart the the Service

Reset Fail count After = 120

    Restart Service after = 0

    1. Click Ok

If the services are running fine (while they are running) that mean there is no problem with their binaries.

That would be considered as temporary resolution till the time we do not have fix.

You say Windows 2008 OS and that implies that you are running Windows Server 2008 since there is no Windows XP version 2008.  If you are running Windows Server 2008, you are in the wrong forum.

If you are NOT running Windows Server 2008 and you ARE running Windows XP, you need to tell us something about your system and what Services are causing you concern.

Windows XP has alot of Services and not all of them need to be running.  As a matter of fact, there are many Windows XP Services that are configured to start automatically that you do not need to be running at all.  The fewer things you have starting and running, the better your system will perform.

Some XP Services can be completely disabled if you are sure your environment does not need them.  Some Services can be set to Manual Start so they will start and run when they need to run and not run all day when there is nothing for them to do (like the Help and Support Service).

I would not go to the Services and start tinkering with the Recovery options since that will not "fix" the problem with the afflicted Service.  That will only fix the symptom of the problem.   If you have a Service that should be running and it quits running, if makes more sense to figure out what the problem is and fix it than to just adjust the Recovery options so it keep restarting itself - that doesn't fix anything.  If the Service is misbhaving or broken, you should figure out what the problem is and fix it instead of taking steps to hide the problem.

When don't you tell us about your system and some of the Services that you have questions about so we will know more:

Since the Microsoft Answers forum implementation does not prompt for any kind of system information when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing fundamental information about a problem prolongs the frustration and agony of resolving these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, for making the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and time consuming as possible.

Please provide additional information about your system as best you can:

What is your system make and model?

What is your XP Version and Service Pack?

What is your Internet browser and version?

Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation:  McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc.

Does the afflicted system have a working CD/DVD drive (internal or external)?

Do you have a genuine bootable XP installation CD that is the same Service Pack as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any Recovery CDs that came with your system)?

What do you see (exactly) that you don't think you should be seeing and when do you see it?

What do you not see that you think you should be seeing?

If the system used to work properly, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did work properly?
