Couldn't get network discovery to stay on, so searched for answers and found

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_7-networking/network-discovery-will-not-stay-on-or-enabled/a5f86e7d-8256-4dc5-a637-b8100055b743

Was following the advice in scenario 1, founds services DNS Client, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host started but not on manual.

Function Discovery Resource Publication is set automatic, but was not started.  Attempted to start but got 'access denied' error code.  Checked the on-line tab of properties, was set to 'this account' with an account name of Local Service and a long password block that I never set.  So checked the other services listed, all are the same name and I assume the same password as they have the same number of dots.

On a whim, I changed to 'local system account' button, but still wouldn't start because 'account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process'.  Tried to reset it back to the other log in button and now it says the password is invalid.  I hadn't touched the password boxes and have no clue what it was to begin with (it was longer than anything I typically use).

Now I figure I could just go set those other three services to local system account and everything might work, but since I couldn't get the one to return to it's previous setting, I thought it best to not push my luck.  Operation wise, my network is running great, full connection to the router and internet. What I had been trying to accomplish was setting things up to stream from PC to PS3.

Hi,

Are you admin user?

Method 1:

To resolve the problem,

 1. Click Start – Search, type “Services.msc”

 2. Look for Function Discovery Resource Publication, right-click and select properties.

 3. Set the service to start as “Automatic (Delayed)” as against the default “Automatic”

Method 2:

However, you may verify if the following services are started and set to automatic in services window.

To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Start
  2. Select Run, type "services.msc" and check if these services are enabled:
  • TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service
  • DNS Client
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPnP Device Host

To start the service and set it to automatic, follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click one of the services listed above and click on Properties.
  2. Click the General tab, and then, next to Startup type, select Automatic.
  3. Click Apply, and then click Start.

If the above steps do not help, create a new user account and check if you can turn on Network discovery.

To create a new user account follows the steps below:

  1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts.
  2. Click Manage another account. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click Create a new account.
  4. Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type as Administrator, and then click Create Account.

If you are able to turn on network discovery using the new profile, access the link below and follow the steps to fix the user profile.

I would also suggest you to enable network discovery and check.
