A gif opens in Media player because gif files are generally animated and the average photo editor, picture manager etc can't handle them.
What you should do is open the gif file in Windows Paint and then resave it as a jpeg..

Hi,
1. How are you saving the pictures on the computer?
2. Do you use any particular programs to open the pictures or native Windows programs?
Method 1:
In order to change the extension, you need to change its format. To do this, simply open up the gif image in a graphics program and save the image by using the "save as" under the file menu option.
At the time the explorer opens where you can enter a new file name or keep the filename, there will also be a drop down to select the image format / extensions.
Method 2:
Another method provided by some graphics program is exporting. After you open the gif up in the program, see if there is an export option under the file menu bar.
if so, then you will be given the opportunity to select jpg.

Method 3:
You may also accomplish this task by using some third party applications which allows for file conversion. You will need to search for such software using your favorite search engine.
**NOTE:**Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk
Picture Manager CAN handle them! Just open the gif in the program, then "Export" as whatever file type you want, bmp, tiff, jpeg, fast and easy!
