I accidently took a few photos in the mov format, not knowing what I was doing...(don't ask)...but now I can't do anything with them. I tried putting them in movie maker, but it said I needed a codec, what ever that is...I just want them to be regular pictures..

Thanks, teri

Most digital cameras...even cellphones, have an option for

creating video clips. MOV is the QuickTime Video Format.

So...instead of stillshots you have created video clips. The

best way I know of to create a still shot from a video clip is

to a Screen Capture. The resulting photo will not be equal

in resolution to your regular digital photos but it will be your

best option.

The freeware VLC Media Player can play your .MOV files

and it has an option for making Screen Captures and saving

them in the JPEG format to a folder of your choice.

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System

Restore point before installing software or updates)

VLC Media Player

http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc/

(runs on XP/Vista/7)

(the filename to download is : vlc-2.0.3-win32.exe)

Once you have VLC downloaded and installed...go to

the folder your .MOV files are saved in and right click

a thumbnail or file name...from the menu...choose...

Open With / VLC Media Player.

To setup for your screen captures...open VLC and

go to...Tools / Preferences / Video button / Video

Snapshots section.

In the directory field...Browse to and select a folder

to save your captures in. (for example...you could

create a new folder on your desktop and select it)

At...Prefix...check the box...Sequential numbering.

At...Format...choose JPEG or PNG.

Finally.....left click the 'Save' button.

Now...Play the video and pause by pressing your

Spacebar when you see a screen you wish to capture.

To capture the screen...type...  Shift+S

Press spacebar to advance to the next photo...

ect...etc...

Thank you for your help...I'll print this response off and give it a try. I will certainly make sure my camera never gets in this format again...what a pain

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

There may be a time when you want to create a video clip...

the documentation that came with your camera should explain

    how to do that.
