    Hi AndrewCollinsTC,

    1.        Do you receive any error message when the Microsoft Silverlight update tries to install?

    2.        Have you made any software or hardware changes on your computer prior to this issue?

    3.        Did you follow the steps suggested in the previous post?

Please provide us more information regarding the issue so that we can deliver you the required assistance.

Who marked this as an answer? Someone without a brain?

Please remove this as an answer!

By the way, what sort of answer are you expecting for question number 2? "Yeah I've installed an antivirus and a competing Office product"?

If you meant to ask if the OP had made changes recently, then say so! As it is, even installing Flash 2 years ago would count.

1-all the errors were more general. For instance, the desktop hung up on updates; the laptop would not start at first, wouldn't system restore, then magically did, mass confusion.

2-do you mean ever? kind of vague. Perhaps on the desktop, but not on the laptop recently.

3-As it stands, the Silverlight update still is in my update cue, but I'm kind of leery to install it.

Are you saying I should try it from the web link above?

As far as the laptop, I see no sign of the Silverlight update on there at all, so I probably don't have Silverlight installed. Since I had issues on both machines tho, perhaps Silverlight was not the culprit.

It occurs to me that Norton is installed on both machines. Perhaps that was an issue?

I'm with ya. This update (which came with about 17 others) has tried to trash both my desktop and laptop. At this juncture, after hangs and system errors and a bunch of stress, everything is working again, but the Silverlight update still wants to install on the desktop. I'm really afraid to do it.

    Hi,

    1.        Are you able to install other updates correctly?

    2.        Have you made any software or hardware changes on your computer prior to this issue?

Let’s follow these methods & check if it helps:

    Method 1

You may download & try to install the update from this link:

Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2636927)

    Method 2

You may follow this link & check if the issue reoccurs:

How to troubleshoot common Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server Update Services installation issues?

Refer: You cannot install updates from Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Update after a repair install of Windows XP or after you install Windows XP SP3 immediately after a clean install of Windows XP SP2

    Hope the information helps.
