I've tried installing updates for Windows Live Essentials but keep getting an error message 0x80070641.  Also, Windows Live Mesh error 0x80040705.  Followed advice on this forum - freed up disk space, using Windows 7.  Don't know what else I can do.  Can anyone help?

    Hi everyone,

Since you're unable to uninstall the application using the normal process, we recommend that you uninstall your Windows Live Essentials using the CMD line parameter. This is different from manually removing the program via control panel. This will remove all the possible corrupted files and remnant files from the previous Installation. Please follow the instruction found in the solution article below:

    1. **How to uninstall Windows Live Essentials via CMD line parameter**(Restart your computer afterwards)

2.****) Browse your computer to C:\Program Files then delete the Windows Live folder if available

     a. Click Startb. Type C:\Program Files on the Start Search box

     c. Hit Enterd. Look for the Windows Live folder

     e. Right-click Windows Live folder and click Delete ****3.) Browse your computer to C:\Program Files\Common Files then delete the Windows Live folder if available

     a. Click Startb. Type C:\Program Files\Common Files on the Start Search box

     c. Hit Enterd. Look for the Windows Live folder

     e. Right-click Windows Live folder and click Delete

4.) Once you have successfully removed the Windows Live Essentials, please try to run **Windows Updates**  again. After updating restart your computer again to ensure that the changes were saved.

5.) Temporarily disable 3 party firewall programs (i.e. McAfee, Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc.)

Note: Disabling the firewall may make your computer or your network vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. Please make sure that you do not have any other Internet Explorer window open or any other programs running while trying to install Windows Live products. Once, you are able to install the Windows Live programs, please turn your firewall back on.

6.) Reset browser to factory settings:

**For Internet Explorer:**a. Open Internet Explorer

     b. Click Tools, and then click Internet Optionsc. Click the Advanced tab

     d. Under Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click ResetIf you are using other browsers, please look for steps on how to reset your browser to factory settings via **Bing**

    7.) Perform disk cleanup

    a. Click Start button

    b. In the search field type Disk Cleanup and press **Enter.**c. Select Drive C:

    d. Under Files to delete select the following:

    • Downloaded Program Files
    • Temporary Internet Files
    • Offline Webpages
    • Recycle Bin
    • Setup Log Files
    • Temporary Files
    • Thumbnails

    e. Click OK.

8.) Download and install Windows Live Essentials using the offline installer link below**:**

    **Windows Live Essentials Offline Installer**

Let us know the result afterwards.

    Thanks!

    Hi Gerard G

Thanks for your quick reply.  When I tried downloading Windows Updates I got a message saying:

    Failed 5 updates

    Errors found:

    Code 800F0A13

    Code 80070614

Would you suggest I continue onto Step 2 of your advice and Uninstall Windows Live Essentials.  Or do I need to sort out this Update problem first, and how would I do that?  Thanks again.
