Outlook sets line breaks within long hyperlinks when sending an invitation

I have an issue when sending an Outlook invitation containing a long hyperlink.
E.g. I send an invitation and insert a hyperlink to a Microsoft Teams meeting which is more than 200 characters long.
I send the invitation in HTML format and the hyperlink works perfectly before sending the invitation. However when the recipients receive it there are line breaks within the hyperlink which makes it unusable.

    Hi @Neville ,

    Welcome!

As I know, issues like this used to happen in Plain Text format emails but hardly in HTML format emails. I also did some tests in my environment Outlook 365 Version 2101 Build 13628.20274, send an hyperlink which is more than 200 characters long in HTML format, everything seems just work fine and cannot reproduce your issue.

So, in order to conduct further researches on your issue, you could try the following suggestions:

    • What's the version of your Outlook? (File > Office Account > About Outlook). To avoid troubles of version-related issues, please make sure you have upgraded your Outlook to the latest version.
    • After sending emails with long hyperlinks out, please check the hyperlink from your Sent Items and see if the issue has any difference there.
    • If there is something wrong with the recipient side, issues like this might happen as well. So, does this issue happen to all the message receivers? Please try to send the same email messages to different users to test and maybe we could get more useful information.
    • There could be some add-ins in your Outlook client that cause this issue, so it is suggested to start your Outlook in safe mode (Press Win + R, type “outlook /safe”, press Enter.) and send same emails to see if the issue continues.
    • By the way, to avoid troubles like those long hyperlinks, as a workaround, it is also suggested to insert your long hyperlink to Text like below which could also make your email messages more concise. (Insert>Links>Link>Existing File or Web Page>Address)

    Hi @JeffYang-MSFT ,

thank you very much for your quick and detailed reply!
    I'll answer your questions:

What's the version of your Outlook? (File > Office Account > About Outlook). To avoid troubles of version-related issues, please make sure you have upgraded your Outlook to the latest version.

I've just updated to the latest version, but this didn't help :(

After sending emails with long hyperlinks out, please check the hyperlink from your Sent Items and see if the issue has any difference there.

In my Sent Items the hyperlink works correctly.

If there is something wrong with the recipient side, issues like this might happen as well. So, does this issue happen to all the message receivers? Please try to send the same email messages to different users to test and maybe we could get more useful information.

I tried to send the message to different recipients and it seems that all recipients using Outlook don't have an issue with the hyperlink. However other recipients using Web-Mail-Services like Googlemail or Web.de receive that message with the line brakes in the hyperlink.
And also this happens with the Windows App 'Mail'
    For example:

    62993-grafik.png

I also thought it was an issue with those Web-Mail services but I've tried to send an invitation from Outlook from my computer at work and there it works perfectly! There it is Outlook Version 2002 (Build 12527.21504).

There could be some add-ins in your Outlook client that cause this issue, so it is suggested to start your Outlook in safe mode (Press Win + R, type “outlook /safe”, press Enter.) and send same emails to see if the issue continues.

I tried this but unfortunately the issue continues.

By the way, to avoid troubles like those long hyperlinks, as a workaround, it is also suggested to insert your long hyperlink to Text like below which could also make your email messages more concise. (Insert>Links>Link>Existing File or Web Page>Address)

I've tried it this way and double checked that the message format was 'HTML'.

Have you any further ideas how to solve this?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hi @Neville ,

    Thanks for your detailed reply.
The issue seems to be a little strange, all recipients using Outlook don't have an issue with the hyperlink while users who do not use Outlook client will have this issue.

Have you noticed some other commonalities, for example, when sending different long hyperlinks, will it breaks at similar length or just breaks randomly?

As I know, in Outlook desktop client, we could set automatically wrap text at character on our own, maybe you could increase the value and restart your Outlook to see if the issue could be a little better.

By the way, there might be some other Outlook format settings which could causes issues like this. So, please try creating and using a new Outlook profile via Control Panel > Mail > Show profile to reset Outlook settings and re-add your email account to test, Hope these could help resolve your issue.

    Hi @JeffYang-MSFT ,

thanks again for your detailed answer and sorry for my late reply.

The length of the hyperlink doesn't take a effect on the issue but I can confirm that the line breaks are inserted after exactly 75 characters. Considering that this was the standard setting for automatically wrap text I've been sure for a short moment that we would have found the solution for the problem. But unfortunately after testing it many times with different settings I have to report: The setting doesn't take any effect on the line breaks. Even though I set it to 130 characters, the line breaks are still inserted after 75 characters.

By the way, there might be some other Outlook format settings which could causes issues like this. So, please try creating and using a new Outlook profile via Control Panel > Mail > Show profile to reset Outlook settings and re-add your email account to test, Hope these could help resolve your issue.

I've tried this as well without any effect. The issue is still there. By the way I also tried to use a completley different mail provider with a different SMTP server to check if it has got anything to do with my provider submitting the e-mails. But i can try what i want.... the hyperlinks are broken after 75 characters into a new line. Very Strange.

Additionally I've just used my second computer where I didn't use Outlook yet. I set up Outlook - which was freshly installed - and tried to send an invitation containing a long hyperlink - it doesn't work there either.
