My computer has been on the fritz of late, and I admit I've been hoping everything would just "fix itself". Well that didn't work out and instead the issue has apparently become worse. When I came home yesterday and rebooted my desktop I was greeted with
an error message while my Windows 7 desktop was loading up. The error message read:
WEMGR.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at 0x000007FEF783EB15 referenced memory at 0x000007FEF787E764. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O
error status of 0x000009c.
Click OK to terminate the program.
Now, when I do click OK it tries to connect to the internet to resolve the issue, but that fails. The reason, I found, is that while the error message is up I can execute Internet Explorer (an instance of the iexplorer.exe starts running, as shown in Processes
under Task Manager), however it never shows up (not shown in Applications under Task Manager). Furthermore, if I do stop explorer by clicking OK, any time I attempt to connect to the internet via Internet Explorer it informs me it cannot connect, even though
I know I have a working connection. I can only assume the problems are connected.
As a note, this issue also appears in Safe Mode, where it keeps attempting to restart explorer.exe, forcing me out of dialog windows, like the Control Panel, by closing them each time it tries (every 10 or so seconds).
My question is, how should I go about fixing this issue? I have a licensed copy of Windows 7 (CD), which I have yet to pop into the drive, but I also researched the issue online at work today (hence this post) and located two additional pieces of software
that were suggested as potential fixers, namely Driver Detective (to update drivers, but that may not work, what with my internet connection at home being "down") and ParetoLogic PC Health Advisor (to fix the registry).
